It is a thorny tree from
Rhamnaceae(cehrigiller) family, blooming nice smelled yellow
flowers in every spring. It is also called as “cigde” or
“ünnap”
It has hard seeds and shaped alike a bulky olive and its
size. At first it is green, as it is grown,
its colour turns into red and black-purple.
Its exterior membrane is leatherlike and thin and its pulp (
smooth fruit ) is yellow coloured and sweet tasted. It is also
called “ünnap” As it’s grown in the gardens, it grows
wildly too.
It’s supposed that it was spread to India
and China from the Northern Africa and Syria. Besides it’s
adapted to many climates, it needs hot summer to fruit good.
It’s grown in Marmara, Western and Southern Anatolia. Again
on Eastern Blacksea and especially on the basin of Çoruh
Valley, the different kinds of it are seen |
